1795 6-10-06
Temper-Mental Racing
Jason LaFortune and TMR team topped the field of 17
entries in the MDR coyote 200 night race. The 1795 JeepSpeed piloted by
Jason LaFortune with co-driver Jason Rivera started 3rd off the line and
left at 7:30 pm. By mm 7 they had passed the 2 other JeepSpeeds in
front of them and extended there lead by 3min &30 seconds by the end of
the first lap. The Dirt Logic shocks worked flawlessly and aided in the
passing most of his competitors in the rough sections of the course. On
the beginning of the second lap Jason Rivera switched on all 8 KC HID
lights which made it seem like daylight coming through the main pit.
Midway through the 2nd lap 1795 became stuck after moving
over to let a buggy buy but luckily a spectator was nearby with a truck
to give him a quick pull, it did however cost him 4min of downtime which
shrunk his lead to 1 min and 30 sec by the end of the second lap. At
the start of the 3rd lap 1795 was running hard and passing many of the
prerunner and 7’s trucks. While coming up to make a pass in one of the
heavily whooped out sections of the course a 7’s ford ranger tried to
speed up to avoid being passed and lost control rolling right in front
of 1795. At the end of the 3rd lap 1795 had extended their
lead to 3min and ran strong all the way to the finish, beating second
place by 2 minutes. 1795 did not suffer one flat on BFG baja terrain
tires.

1795 Jason LaFortune Race Report 4-1-06
Temper-Mental Racing had a great day at the MDR
Mojave 250. On the first lap Karl Ambrust (co driving) Jason LaFortune
(Driver) started in 12th position and we ran strong passing all the
Jeeps in front of us except Peltzer, we were hot on his trail but a
wrong turn put us a little behind. Then as we pulled up to the start
finish some of the flags were down we ended up on the wrong side of the
flags having to drive through them. As we sat at the flagman they
discussed with each other what to do, so after 30seconds they wanted us
to back up around the barrels and back around the fence. Keep in mind
how hard it is to back up when you cannot see behind you let alone
dangerous. Backing into the orange barrels and into another fence we
drove back around, swung a 180 and pulled back into the start finish and
we were finally off on our second lap. Our second lap was a little
better them the first except for making the mistake of trying to pass a
prerunner truck and following him down the wrong road causing us to do
some serious bushwhacking. The second lap went great except for that
small detour. The third Lap Jon Krellwitz (driver) and Jason Rivera (co
driver) took the jeep and ran strong battling back and fourth with Eric
Heiden for second place until a flat tire brought them limping into pit
C where Matt McCallum did a quick tire change. On the fourth lap they
pulled into main pit to take on a new spare tire where it was discovered
that the lower sub frame had cracked and needed to be welded. After 10
minutes welding and hammering of parts we were off to a flawless 4th
lap and a strong 3rd place finish out of 24 entries. All in
all an exceptional run and testament to the strength of mostly bolt on
products that we are running on this jeep.

1795 Temper-Mental Racing
Henderson 400 Race Report 12-2-06
Temper-Mental Racing (TMR) takes a
first place finish at the Best In The Desert Henderson 400 and clinches
the 2006 American Racing Wheels JeepSpeed racing circuit. With Jason
LaFortune at the wheel and Jon Krellwitz co-driving the TMR team had a 9th
place start out of 18 entries. One thing was on their minds Beat Ray
Griffith and keep the truck together. With Eric Heiden starting right
behind TMR it was essential to push hard to catch Ray Griffith who was
first off the line. When the green flag dropped it was full throttle
into the 3big jumps in the infield where the Dirt Logic shocks and bump
stops proved as they have all season that they were ready for some
serious abuse. Jason proved this by launching all three of the jumps
bigger then any of his competitors. Out of the infield and down the
course the race was on, passing other Jeeps with the solid skyjacker
suspension system. The next big challenge was the rock garden where it
was proved once again that the BFG tires are tough as nails and many
competitors were passed as they were changing flat tires. It was after
the rock garden where some of the greatest racing took place between Guy
Aldredge, the lost racing crew, Eric Hieden and TMR. Jon Krellwitz did
an amazing job of reminding LaFortune that this is not who he is racing
against (for the championship) and got LaFortune to calm down and get
out of their dust. Up and over the mountain and down to pit C TMR was
in 4th place and right on the tail of Eric Heiden, it was on
the way into pit C where they witnessed Ray Griffith on the side of the
course who was signaling that he was out of the race. At that point
there was mixed emotions of joy knowing all that was needed to win the
championship was a finish and disappointment that TMR would not be able
to race it out with Ray Griffith who had run an amazing season. Past
pit C and on to the lakebed where heavy dust was cleaned by the huge UMP
air filter and funneled through the custom UMP intake system giving the
Jeep all the power necessary to scream across the lakebed. It was then
on to the last obstacle on the course BLM’s revenge (another rock
garden) where the Currie rear end took quite a few large hits with big
rocks and did not miss a beat. TMR was now in 3rd place
cruising at a good pace when they came upon Guy Allderedge stuck in a
sandy section and took the 2nd place position. There was
only one person to catch now (Eric Hardin) but Krellwitz reminded
LaFortune again that we just need to finish. Now TMR was in the fast
power line road and came upon Heiden changing a flat tire putting TMR in
1st place. Unfortunately 5 miles later a driver error caused
TMR to get a flat tire, as Krellwitz and LaFortune finished changing the
tire Heiden went driving by and the race was on. Heiden and LaFortune
battled for 10 miles with a helicopter flying 40ft above getting all of
the racing action all the way into the main pit area. TMR came into the
pits hot on Heidens tail for a quick fueling and spare tire change and
were off on the last lap. TMR’s pit crew was able to get them out of
the pits ahead of Heiden, and in the 1st place position.
Five miles into the last lap the motor started missing heavily due to a
faulty sensor. However TMR was able to maintain their lead to pit 2
where it was decided to pull into the pits to let Gavin Skilton and Nick
Beil take a look at what was going on. The decision was made run it the
way it was. With the motor running fat and no other problems TMR took
the Currie Enterprises/ Dirt Logic shocks 1795 JeepSpeed to the first
place finish and clinched the 2006 JeepSpeed Championship for the second
year in a row.
